Key Chemical Reactions
-Toxicology in Chemical Reactions-
Outline
In this section, students will learn about chemical interactions during a reaction:
Basic chemical reactions
-
Combination reaction
-
Decomposition
-
Combustion
-
Single replacement
-
Double replacement

4 Basic Toxicology Chemical Reactions
-
Oxidation & Reduction
-
Converts the drug into a more polar metabolite
-
-
Hydrolysis
-
Converts the drug into a more polar metabolite
-
-
Conjugation
-
Acid base reactions

*NOTE FOR INSTRUCTORS:
If the chemical equations hasn't been explictly taught, teach chemical equations first before continuing to the different reactions. I Suggest review on different types of bonds.
This part is taught in the Biology & Toxins section.

DAY 0: Our relations to the world around us [instructor introduce]
DAY 1: Identification of fundamental chemical reactions
DAY 2: Combination reactions & decomposition reactions, Single and double replacements
Optional: Day 3.2- Activity day
*this series of lessons may be overwhelming for students, teachers must do a review session and hopefully able to integrate the lessons into a project (ex. presentations/experiments). Also suggest to find toxicology related movies.
